It was unlike WWE to have two shows in the same month, especially with the Royal Rumble being one of the company's biggest events of the year. The show was scrapped after 2007, but nevertheless, there were some good matches from all of these shows.

10 Tag Team Turmoil - 2007

New Year's Revolution 2007 featured a tag team turmoil match to determine the number 1 contenders for the world tag team championships. This match featured The Highlanders, Jim Duggan and Super Crazy, The World's Greatest Tag Team, Lance Cade and Trevor Murdoch and Cryme Tyme.

It was Cryme Tyme who emerged from the contest victorious and earned a title shot at the tag champions. Shad Gaspard and JTG entered the match last to see off Cade and Murdoch to pick up the win. The final match between these two teams was certainly the stand-out from all the matches within the tag turmoil.

9 Ric Flair Vs Edge - 2006

New Year's Revolution 2006 was quite the pay-per-view for The Rated R Superstar Edge. This was the event that saw him cash-in his Money in the Bank briefcase on John Cena to become WWE champion for the first time.

Before his title triumph, he faced Ric Flair in the night's opening match. The match ended in a disqualification after Flair had Lita in the Figure Four and Edge hit Flair with the Money in the Bank briefcase, busting The Nature Boy wide open. This was a decent match and helped establish Edge as a ruthless heel.

8 Trish Stratus Vs Mickie James - 2006

Mickie James' rivalry with Trish Stratus from 2006 is pretty well remembered. James at the time played the psycho stalker of Trish, who was the women's champion at the time. The two women faced off at New Year's Revolution 2006 with the gold on the line.

As part of Mickie's gimmick, she would copy Trish's moves. This included the 'Mick Kick' which was a rip-off of the 'Chick Kick' and she also used Trish's trademark Stratisfaction. Trish however emerged victorious on this occasion.

7 Mickie James Vs Victoria - 2007

Mickie James clashed with Victoria for the women's title at New Year's Revolution 2007 for the WWE women's championship. Mickie was a very popular champion at the time and defended her title against a very worthy opponent in Victoria.

This match is noted for a number of interferences. Melina, who accompanied Victoria to the ring, tried her best to ensure Victoria left the champion, but Maria and Candice Michelle intervened to make sure this wasn't the case. Mickie won the match with a DDT.

6 Kenny Dykstra Vs Ric Flair - 2007

Kenny Dykstra vs Ric Flair from the 2007 event was surprisingly entertaining. A back and forth match ended when Dykstra got a low blow on Flair and rolled him up with the small package to get the pinfall.

Dykstra was only 20 at the time, he enjoyed a lot of exposure as part of the Spirit Squad and then briefly as a singles star. Flair once again proved that he can help elevate other talent, and he did so in this match. Although it never worked out for Dykstra in WWE, this was an enjoyable match.

5 John Cena Vs Umaga - 2007

John Cena defended his WWE title against Umaga in the 2007 edition of the pay-per-view. The dangerous Samoan posed a big threat to Cena's WWE title, however Cena was able to pull through and defeat the bulldozer.

Cena was pretty much invincible in this period, defeating all-comers. Umaga, who had been on a roll up until this point, had dominated Cena in the match, but the WWE champion managed to roll up the big Samoan to retain his title. This was a good match, although the ending was slightly underwhelming. This match served as a set up for their much more brutal and well-remembered encounter at the Royal Rumble.

4 Steel Cage Match Jeff Hardy Vs Johnny Nitro - 2007

Johnny Nitro challenged Jeff Hardy for the Intercontinental title in a steel cage match at the 2007 event. We saw some unique offense in this match, as expected with these two involved. This included a powerbomb off the top of the cage and some high-flying tactics.

The match ended when Nitro was attempting to climb out, but Hardy kicked the door open, crotching Nitro on it in the process, allowing Jeff to escape and retain his title. This match was very entertaining and its innovative ending made for a very good finish.

3 Rated RKO Vs D-Generation X - 2007

Rated RKO clashed with D-Generation X at New Year's Revolution 2007. The team of Randy Orton and Edge fought Triple H and Shawn Michaels to a no-contest in this grudge match. This was a war, with both teams trying to destroy each other.

The match ended as a no-contest after HBK struck the ref and then assaulted Orton and Edge with a chair. DX brutalized Rated RKO with chairs and then put Orton and Edge through announce tables. Unfortunately for Triple H, he would suffer a ruptured quadriceps tendon during this match, which would see him sidelined for seven months.

Although Cena survived the match, he did not survive the night as champion. Edge came out to cash-in his Money in the Bank briefcase and Cena was beaten after two Spears.

1 Elimination Chamber - 2005

New Year's Revolution 2005 was pretty much a one-match show. Thankfully, this one match was well worth the wait. Triple H, Batista, Randy Orton, Chris Jericho, Chris Benoit and Edge battled it out for the vacated WWE title inside the Elimination Chamber.

This match was everything you expect from a chamber match, violence, brutality and aggression. Shawn Michaels was the guest referee, which added a layer of suspense to the match. The tease of Batista turning on Triple H had the fans in Puerto Rico gripped and helped sow the seeds for their eventual rivalry. Ultimately it was The Game who won out, thanks in large part to The Animal.
